“And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them.” Matthew 13:4
“But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces:…” Matthew 13:23
You are now 5 days removed from hearing the Word this past Sunday. A seed was sown and you may or may not have been moved to make changes to your life in order to Unleash Greatness in 2017.
If you were moved to make changes then you now find yourself 5 days later in one of these positions:
Unchanged in Attitude – Just Continue on as is
You have tried for a few days, but have deemed it impossible – You’ve already decided that you’ll just continue on as it was before
You are trying to change how you live day to day, but have already encountered opposition from within, from outside or a combination of both – You wonder if this is even possible
You are trying and you already are noticing that the difference is going to make a difference
The parable of the sower that Jesus communicates to us in Matthew 13 describes the Word of God as seed deposited into 4 different types of hearts. I want to encourage you if you fall into category 1 or 2 to resist the apathy and discouragement. The Bible tells us “our adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” (1 Peter 5:8) The devil does not want you to persevere through the difficulties and discouragement that comes along with the process of allowing change to occur in your life. Setting off a new pattern in your life is hard and the devil wants to make it seem like: Hard = Impossible. If he can get you to believe that then the seed is devoured and can never take root in your heart. If you have already failed in what you were motivated to do on Sunday, just pick yourself back up and start again. It’s OK. Success is simply a series of failures in which you got back up.
If you find yourself in category 3 take heart. Opposition will almost always be present in some form. God will finish what He has begun in you, that is a promise. Push on, keep digging up your life and allow that seed to grow deeper within you.
If you are in category 4, rejoice in what you have seen thus far and keep tending to what God has done in your heart. Look forward to the fruit that will come forth from your new life.
Never underestimate the Word of God and Never Dismiss it. It has the power to light the way, revive your soul and change your life.
“This is the comfort in my affliction, For Your word has given me life.” Psalm 119:50
