Unfair Fight

As our new series “The Fight” kicks off and we start talking about spiritual warfare in our lives. I think it’s easy to look at ourselves and think everything is fine, “I’m not in a fight”. And that may be true. But I believe for a lot of us, as we examine ourselves we find not only is there a fight going on but perhaps we are being bombarded from all sides. It starts to feel like an unfair fight.

One of my favorite story’s in the Bible is found in 2 Kings 6:8-19 it talks about Syria waging war on Israel and the Syrians are looking for the Prophet Elisha and they track him down to a city called Dothan. And the Syrian army surrounded the city with horses and chariots. Now Elisha’s servant sees that the army has them surrounded. (I bet he feels exactly how a lot of us feel like there is no way out. Like it’s to much to handle. Like this is an unfair fight). He turns to Elisha and asks “what do we do?” Elisha said to his servant, “do not fear, for those who are with us are more then those who are with them”. Elisha then prayed, “God open his eyes so that he may see”. And God opened the servants eyes and he saw and the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. He then prayed that the Syrian army be struck with blindness and he led them away.

It’s easy to feel trapped or helpless like it’s one thing after another and you are drowning. It could be worry or fear perhaps depression. Maybe it’s a bottle or what your looking at when no one’s around. “The Fight” is real and it is unfair. Do not fear, for those who are with you are more then Those who are against you.

Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

James 4:7

It is an unfair fight because we have a loving all powerful God on our side. It is an unfair fight because those who are for you are more then those who are against you. With God on our side the fight was over before it began.
