“Where do you go…my lovely…where do you go…I wanna know…my lovely, I wanna know, where do you go…”
These words are the opening line from the 1996 hit, “Where Do You Go” by No Mercy. Commence 90’s dance moves!! You’re Welcome because now THAT Song will be stuck in your head ALL day LONG!! HAHA!
Speaking of stuck in your head! What would happen today if, you walked around today with God’s Promises actually stuck in your head? What would change about you? Would your outlook be different? Would your Joy be more full? Would you have more Strength to endure this day? Would you be able to resist the devil’s attacks and temptations better because you were constantly reminded of who you are in Him? Yes, Yes and Yes!!
But the Question really is: Where do you go? Where do you go to find the Promises of God? Simple, His word. His word is full of every promise God has for you. Now, all you’ve got to do is get them STUCK in YOUR HEAD!
The more we know of the Bible, the more we know of God and His will for our lives. And when we go beyond reading to memorizing, we place His promises deep in our hearts. There change how we think and how we respond when life gets hard.
When you commit the Bible to memory you are equipping your heart and mind to battle against Satan’s attacks. Recalling Scripture and praying it over our circumstances will grow our faith, remind us of our hope, and send the enemy running for the hills!
5 Easy Ways to Start Memorizing Scripture
1. Make Notecards.
2. Put it where you’ll see it.
Here are some practical ideas:
Use a dry erase marker to write the verse on a mirror where you’ll see it every day.
Write the verse reference on your hand or arm.
Write it on an index card then put that card on a magnet on the fridge or on the dashboard of your car.
Make a screensaver for your phone or computer with the verse and reference.
3. Make it personal.
Put your name in the text (i.e. “For God so loved ______ that he gave his one and only Son, that ________ believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”) Making the Scripture personal helps us to remember the verse and to apply it to our lives.
4. Download a Scripture memory app for your phone.
5. Make it a Family Game
Why not get the family involved? Whenever someone is asked, they must recite the verse, then keep score and at the end of the week, give the winner a prize!
