Where is our Focus?
I’m not sure if you have seen it or not, but there's a new commercial involving Tim Tebow, Derrick Henry, and Bo Jackson. Tim says he's "Bo watching" and explains that if you watch Bo Jackson long enough, he does something incredible. Derrick gets bored and turns to Tim to ask how long it takes, taking his eyes off Bo just long enough to miss something involving a helicopter and scuba gear. Poor Derrick can't catch a break, because every time he looks away, Bo has just finished some sort of crazy feat involving a sumo wrestler and even a wizard.
If Derrick had just been focused on what Tim was saying, then he wouldn't have missed out on whatever crazy thing Bo had just done. That's what I want to take a few minutes and talk about, focus. More specifically where our focus should be.
“Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him.”
2 Timothy 2:3-4
“I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
See me and you as believers should have our focus set on Jesus, but if you're anything like me then you have a tendency to become distracted. It's in these moments of distraction that I become weak and start to lose my footing in my own spiritual battle. But, when my focus is on Jesus and I press on towards the goal set before me, I find myself becoming more dependent on Jesus and start to take back those areas where I'm losing the fight.
God has crazy awesome things planned for your life if you know Jesus, but the only way that happens is if we turn our focus on Jesus and off of our problems. When the focus of our life is Jesus and let him lead our life and be our source of power and strength, all those problems that seem overwhelming become nothing more than small obstacles that can be easily brushed aside.
“Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest.”
