In order to be fighting in this battle of spiritual warfare, We NEED to be memorizing Scripture. That is how we can defeat the enemy. We need to equip ourselves to combat what is thrown our way. Ephesians 6:11 says
“Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes”.
One piece of that armor is the “sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God” (Eph 6:17). Taking the TRUTH and combating what the outside world is surrounding us with, is how we are able to be victorious in our battles. Jesus used the Word of God, and recited Scripture when he was being tempted by the devil (Matthew 4).
A verses that has helped me in my life is,
“But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.” (1 John 4:4 NLT)
I would constantly be repeating in my head, Greater is He who is in me than he who is in the world, greater is He who is in me that he who is in the world. In this verse John is speaking to believers; there were a lot of false teachers in the world. While they may present themselves slightly different today, we are surrounded by false teachings. For example, as long as you are a good person, then you will go to heaven, or whatever the path, all roads lead to God. Another big one is, this can’t be wrong if it makes you happy, God wants me to be happy. Satan uses sly words and twists truths so that we doubt what God has said. If we let outside influences consistently speak into us, pretty soon we lose sight of truth. We let other people’s actions, opinions and beliefs, influence and sometimes determine ours.
Fear has been a consistent struggle in my life, so this verse spoke to me, that God was bigger than what I was allowing to be true, he is bigger than my momentary fear. God, the God who sees me (Genesis 16:13) the God who knows me and cares for me, HE is victorious. By using Scripture we can fight against the lies that Satan surrounds us with. We must remind ourselves that God, who lives in me, is greater than my fears, my insecurities, and my false beliefs. God has won, and we can celebrate in that.
Know the Scriptures, memorize verses that speak directly to your struggles so that you can stand firm in the knowledge that Christ gives you.
