Look at those muscles!

I remember growing up watching cartoons with my brother. One cartoon we would watch was Spongebob Squarepants. We watched a number of episodes, but one that stuck with me was an episode where Spongebob went to muscle beach. He went and saw all the buff lobsters and fish lifting huge amounts of weight. Spongebob tries to lift those same weights, but quickly realizes he is not anywhere near strong enough to keep up with those guys. So, he goes back home and sees a commercial for “Anchor Arms”, a set of inflatable arms that make you seem really strong. He buys the arms and goes back to muscle beach and everyone is impressed with his quick progress, until the time comes for him to actual lift some real weights.

I think if this was something that happened in our world today, people would scoff at that. The overwhelming reaction would be something like, “If you actually put the time and dedication in, maybe you would have those muscles.” But how often do we try and put our fake muscles on when it comes to our spiritual battles that we fight every single day?

"But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one."

2 Thessalonians 3:3

If we would take the time to become disciplined and actually put in the effort to be more self controlled and focused of Jesus, how much easier would our battles be?

"Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith."

1 Peter 5:8-9

“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

John 8:32

Now I get it, that's a lot easier said than done. But that's why it's called a battle, if it was easy then no one would struggle with anything. It just takes one step, one day at a time. Start by committing to being in God’s Word everyday, and it doesn't have to be for an hour, just start somewhere. Be willing to memorize God’s Word. God’s Word is the truth that will set you free.

Remember where your source of power comes from. If you know Christ, then you have what it takes to overcome your battles! Put the time in and God will start to grow and stretch you. You will start to rely on Him and His power, His “muscles!”

"In all these things, we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us."

Romans 8:37

So go out today, and when you feel like you're being attacked, remember to show off those muscles that God has given you!
