About

Crossroads Baptist Church was founded in 2001 with the vision of creating a church that people would love to attend and one that will continually impact the next generation for Christ. Our beliefs are founded in the Word of God, it is what and how we teach from our Sunday Services to our Life Groups.

The Arena

October 31, 2018

In the movie, The Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen never seemed to catch a break.  Her father dies in a mining explosion, her mother becomes severely depressed and her sister is chosen to play a human target in a deadly game created to amuse the Capitol.  In the fictional drama that took place in a country called Panem, Katniss volunteers to take her sister’s place and endure hunger, exhaustion, fireballs, tracker jackers, and mutant wolves, to name a few.  Finally, just when Katniss thinks she has won the game, the Capitol changes the rules and she is forced to act in defiance of the Capitol by attempting to poison and kill herself and Peeta, her partner.  Her creative stunt angered the Capitol but kept her and Peeta alive.

Do you feel like your living in a dangerous arena sometimes?  Maybe your marriage is rocky and every which way you turn, there are land mines to avoid.  Maybe you’re trying to raise a godly family and everyday is a challenge from the time you awake until your exhausted body hits the bed.  Maybe your work situation has you running to stay alive with “careers” shooting fiery arrows or teaming up to take you out.

The Capitol holds the hunger games every year as a reminder of a war they won between themselves and the districts.  We are currently in a similar arena. I John 5:19 says, “We know that we are children of God and that the world is under the control of the evil one.”  Satan is the “god of this world” ruling his counterfeit kingdom.  The difference, however, is that God has already won the REAL war.  With his supernatural power to back us up, we don’t have to back down to the Enemy.  We cannot stop fighting by seeking the comfortable or quick solution.  We must throw punches or we will not win the fight.

As Christians, these punches come in the form of genuine heartfelt prayer, reaching out and encouraging others, Bible STUDY, sharing our faith with friends and neighbors, and staying the course.

Romans 5:3-4 says, “We also glory in our sufferings because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character hope.”  It’s the hope that enables us to take another step and continue walking even when all seems lost or hopeless or too hard to endure.  Jesus walks alongside us.  Hope isn’t something we can talk ourselves into.

Do you have an unbelieving spouse?  PRAY.  Don’t give up the fight.

Do you have a struggling or wayward child?  PRAY.  Don’t give up the fight.

Do you have unsaved family members or neighbors, pray, share and pray some more but don’t give up the fight.

God can turn a hopeless situation into a beautiful one.

Rock on!  Nicole Craven
